George Richmond (1809-1896)
Head of a Sleepy Woman
Pencil; initialled and inscribed 'Mrs Joy'
14 1/2 x 10 1/4 inches
£3,500
This is an unusually fine, intimate and informal drawing of a handsome woman, but we have been unable to identify a 'Mrs Joy' (as it is inscribed) from amongst Richmond's circle, nor amongst the family's list of his sitters. We suppose the date to be about 1850.
