This chalk drawing, by Edward Robert Hughes 1887, is of Nora Janet Beausire, daughter of Liverpool art collector Joseph Beausire. Joseph Beausire and Fanny Adela Mary Rust married and had ten children together, one being Nora Janet (and another Henriette, who was also drawn by Hughes in 1887). Beausire was a Birkenhead businessman and was Chairman of the West India and Pacific Steamship Company, formed in 1863 in Liverpool. Before that he was also the Director of the North and South Wales Bank, also formed in Liverpool in 1836. As well as a businessman, Beausire was a keen supporter of the arts and his collection included works from Pre-Raphaelite artists such as Rossetti and landscapes by Turner and Constable. He was also the grandfather of Cecil Francis Joseph Beausire (1898 - 1972) who bequeathed many valuable English watercolours to the Walker Art Gallery in 1970.
